OryzaFat® is a rumen bypass fat made from rice bran oil fatty acids in the form of a calcium soap. It is a concentrated energy supplement for dairy cattle and buffalo, made by PBS Oil Industries.
A fat supplement protected so that it passes through the rumen, the first, fermenting stomach of cattle and buffalo, without being broken down by microbes. It is then digested and absorbed in the small intestine, where it supplies energy.
The calcium salt of fatty acids, formed when fatty acids react with a calcium source (saponification). Calcium soaps are largely insoluble at the near-neutral pH of the rumen, and dissociate in the acidic abomasum, which is what makes them a rumen-protected fat.
High-producing animals need a lot of energy, but can only eat so much feed. Bypass fat raises the energy density of the ration without adding more rumen-fermentable starch, and without the fibre-digestion problems that free oil can cause in the rumen.
It depends on the animal's milk yield, stage of lactation, body condition and the rest of the ration. Please contact our technical team or consult your animal nutritionist for a recommended feeding rate.
Yes. OryzaFat is intended for lactating dairy cattle and buffalo. As with any new feed ingredient, introduce it into the ration gradually.
Keep bags closed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Detailed storage conditions and shelf life will be listed on the product specification sheet.
The raw material. Palm-based bypass fats are made from palm fatty acids, which are dominated by palmitic acid (C16:0). OryzaFat is made from rice bran oil fatty acids, which in our tested material are about 69% unsaturated, mainly oleic and linoleic acid, with palmitic acid at about 25.5%.
A version in development that combines OryzaFat with protected, encapsulated flaxseed oil, aimed at omega-3 enriched milk. It is not yet commercially available.
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, C18:3) is a plant omega-3 fatty acid. Flaxseed (linseed / alsi) oil is one of its richest sources.
